ALERT!! WARNING!!
Horse owners are walking into their barns or pastures and finding that the tails (and sometimes manes) of their horses have been cut. This could be mere vandalism or, more likely, the perpetrators are taking the horse hair to sell. WSHC encourages everyone to be alert for unusual drive-by interest in your facility or your fields. Watch out for your neighbors, too. If you hear of or see horse hair for sale that seems a little suspicious, report it to local authorities. If you hear of someone bragging about “collecting” horse hair, report it.
In addition, numerous incidents of tack/equipment/supplies thefts continue to happen throughout our state. Follow the same vigilance in being aware of your property and area. Report anything and everything.
Often these crimes do not have enough evidence at the scene to help solve them. Frequently, it is word-of-mouth and local knowledge that leads to solving these types of crimes. In short, it’s “us” who can provide the most help in these matters.
